Drop In

The Mental Health Rights Coalition prides itself on having a safe and cozy place for consumers to visit during the day. As a member driven organization members are encouraged to take part in the planning and management of the programs and facility.

Members are welcome to drop in for coffee (25 cents), visit with other members and staff and participate in regular programs.

There are a variety of resources availabe including computer, internet, telephone and a resource library. There are brochures available and help in finding other community resources.

Peer support is always availabe either in the group setting with other mental health consumer/survivors or in private with a trained peer support worker.

With input from the members, staff and volunteers create and maintain programs which reflect the interests of the members. The programs may include a variety of card and board games, occassional trips, movies, karaoke and crafts. The programs are scheduled one month in advance and may be found on the web site calendar or on the monthly newsletter.

Members are also expected to take responsibility for the facility by maintaining the safe and healthy atmosphere with good manners and acceptable behaviours.

Programs

The coffee is always on and even when there is no planned activity there is someone to talk with or something to do.

Daily programs may include a variety of activities including board and card games, crafts, movies and karaoke. Most programs begin at 1 p.m. Occoassionally we are able to join other groups for special outings. Outings usually require a sign up one week in advance with a minimal fee. These outings are available on a first come, first serve basis.

Each month we also have a small birthday party to celebrate with members who have birthdays during the month.

Often there are spontaneous events which may include games or a walk on a nice day.

Members are encouraged to make suggestions and introduce the group to new activities which may be of interest to all.
